Solar Electricity

Solar electricity is the same as the electricity from PNM or your utility.
Your appliances – from your vacuum to your computer - will work just like they always do when using solar electricity.  That’s because there is no difference between the solar electricity you can generate and the electricity generated by PNM.  That’s why PNM will gladly use all surplus electricity your system generates!

Solar electricity pays for itself.
You don’t have to pay your utility for any of the electricity you generate.  For a typical home, that means you will save about $40 per month in cash outlays for electricity.  Better still, your utility will probably pay you for your electricity through Renewable Energy Credits.  For PNM customers, that’s worth 13 cents per kilowatt hour, or a payment to you of about $70 each month on average.

Solar electricity protects you from future utility rate increases and electricity shortages.
You probably know from the news, that electricity rates are likely to go up in the near future, maybe as much as 20% here in New Mexico.  With growing population in New Mexico, the need for more electrical generating capacity and efforts to keep our environment clean, rates are likely to continue to rise over time.  Generating your own clean solar electricity ensures availability of electricity to you at low cost for years to come!

Our sun has been providing us light and heat for billions of years and will continue to do so for billions more.  We live in the sunny Southwest where the sun shines more than 300 days each year!  It’s a natural resource that is available to us every day and can be used safely and reliably for our benefit.

Solar electricity is Green.
Producing solar electricity is the cleanest and safest way to produce electricity, bar none.  No fossil fuels are burned, no CO2 is produced.  In fact, the environmental benefit of using solar electricity on your home is about the same as removing the pollution of a car from the air.
